Join the crowd of 3000

BIT is an immersive platform for electronic music and its crowd. In order to build this nightclub we are selling 3000 tickets for the first eight events of the opening month.

A team of devotees is putting in work to create BIT. A homegrown, open-minded and eccentric new nightclub is emerging in the Keile district in the West of Rotterdam — to fill the voids of the music we’re longing for. As all groundwork and processes are getting into gear, the 24-hour permit is in the pocket, we need your support to make it happen: help crowdfunding club BIT by buying tickets for yourself, friends, for one or multiple nights!

The full 100% of the raised funds are used for the realisation of BIT which will be executed by Lara, Stijn, Tony, Nick and the team behind Keilecafe who initiated this. The plan for building this immersive platform BIT will be as follows:

The full 100% of the proceeds go directly into the realisation of the club — from the custom sound system and light installation to the interior design and visual identity.

Phase 1

The entity of BIT will be visualised by Lara Bruggeman for recognition and aesthetic purposes.

Phase 2

The construction of the club’s infrastructure and the remodeling of the dance floor which will be designed and set out by Stijn van Aardenne and Gido Cuppens.

Phase 3

The build of Tony’s custom designed sound system and the purchase of the amplifier, monitors and DJ-gear.

Phase 4

The light installation of Nick Mansveld will be constructed by him and all the help that we can give him!

Visual Identity by Lara

For our visual identity we’re working with graphic designer and visual artist Lara Bruggeman. Lara’s refined approach to graphic design is paired with a thoroughly experimental element, which has led technology, mixed media and the digital realm becoming a main part of her work. Navigating between the digital and physical worlds, she shapes the middle ground between BIT’s digital presence and its physical existence.

In case you’re curious: the design of this website you’re wandering on comes from her able hands. It’s the beginning of this symbiosis she’s creating, yet for her to continue working on this project, we need your help.

Interior by Stijn

Whether it’s the shape, material and overall feel of the bar, the DJ booth or any other detail of the club — we have Stijn van Aardenne to design and sculpt it. We know Stijn from back at elementary school, when he was building his own motorcycle.

Flash forward to 2021, and he has built his own life-sized 3D-printer that chisels out anything he programs it to. This freedom to sculpt any given form in a vast array of recycled materials, coupled with a fine sense of design and an unbridled creative mind, make us confident that the results will be spectacular. Therefore he is responsible for all the construction activities.

Sound by Tony

To make sure every kick drum, snare, vocal, synth or any other noise finds its way into your ears in the most optimal way, we entrust Tony Netten of Netten Audiovisueel for taking care of our sound system.

Tony has been our go-to guy for anything related to sound systems and DJ equipment over the past ten years — from our very first not-so-legal parties, to Keilecafe and now to our club in the making. Inspired by an illustrious brand of club and festival speakers, Tony meticulously designs his sound systems to his own custom perfection, constructs them and knows his way around the faders to finetune it all. For BIT, we give him our free pass: he can go all the way to get the sound exactly how it should be.

Light by Nick

BIT can be seen as an immersive installation which is all about sensory experience. The nights that Nick Mansveld spent at Trouw Amsterdam back in the day, is what made him discover light as an immersive experience. He became inspired as an artist to work with light in this mesmerizing way. Nick earned his stripes at the Colorspace events as well as by his installation BPM for the Dekmantel Connects show of Peaking Lights and of course the infamous afterparty of Artweek 2020 in the very building of BIT. Right now he’s working on a light installation for BIT, both for inside as well as our outdoor area.

The crux of the installation is that it doesn’t just respond to the buttons the operator chooses to push, but uses sensors to respond to the environment, such as temperature, sound and of course audience. For instance the number of people on the dance floor, where they are, how they move and the shifts in this whole dynamic are all input of how the light of the club behaves — creating light that’s AI like, a digital entity, that’s as alive as you are. These arrangements are still on the drawing table and will be developed by experimenting on the dance floor.

Building

BIT is set to put down roots in a former office building in the Keile area in the West of Rotterdam, an area known for its harbour, overall grit and eventful history. In the hundred years since it was built, it originally took duty as office building, eventually turned into an erotic plaza in the times in which the Keileweg was an infamous sexworking area, and over the past few years served as restaurant and shisha lounge.

In its remarkable features and character, the three-story construction carries the marks of those different former functions and eras— an illusive past of which the sensual mystery and spiced smoke seem to have seeped into every brick and tile.

Moving into its next chapter, the building is now owned by artist and designer Joep van Lieshout, making it available for an exciting new venture — one you can be part of.
